Gestalt therapy places a lot of emphasis on helping the client understand their non-verbal cues and body language. It focusses heavily on “here and now” behaviour and the potential for positive change. The client will be encouraged, and sometimes challenged, to accept responsibility for their actions, decisions and feelings and is therefore, best suited to people who are willing to try to do this. Modern Gestalt therapy is not, however, necessarily a ‘confrontational’ approach. As part of her integrative approach Helen will use the ethos of Gestalt. Steve uses Gestalt ideology within his integrative work when working with the solution focused approach.
